When I saw the trend of violence on police K9’s this January I was worried about what may follow. So far February has made that fear a reality as it has been very violent on officers. As of right now 8 officers have now been shot and killed. 8! That brings the total to 10 officers who have lost their lives while on duty. This is not counting the number of officers who have been shot but survived.
Most of which these shootings have been in just the last week alone. I have never met any of the officers killed but I have shed tears and have felt the loss over each one. I feel sorrow and frustration. They were fathers, husbands, brothers and sons. My frustration and anger is growing toward the media, celebrities, and even the president who have portrayed LE in such a negative and hateful way that it has put hits out on their heads. The lacks of respect for our LE is outrageous and makes me want to scream and shake people. When did what was right become wrong and what was wrong become right? When did criminal have more rights than officers? When as a society did we let evil take over?
I know each one of my officer’s voice, their names, and their faces. I know many of their wives, I have held their babies.
While they know the inherent risk of the job they still go out and do it day in and day out for you and for me. I for one love and support Law Enforcement and pray for them daily. I shudder to think what this world would be like if we didn’t have the officer presence like we do now. You are far more likely to die from a medical mistake (which is #3! on the list for top things that kill people in the US next to cancer and heart disease) then for being shot by on officer. The last thing an officer wants to do is shot or hurt someone. I am proud to say I am part of the LE family and I will continue to support the officers and the job that they do. Much like the K9’s I want to take a moment to remember and honor those who have given their all this year. I also changed the light on my front porch to blue to show my support. May God bless and look after the Peace Makers.
