Never Forget

Trooper Linda C. Huff, Idaho State Police- EOW June 17, 1998

Trooper Linda Huff was shot and killed in the parking lot behind the Idaho State Police District 1 station in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at approximately 11:00 pm.

A male subject had ridden his bike to the facility and ambushed Trooper Huff, shooting her 17 times. Two of the rounds were stopped by her vest and one severed her spinal cord, paralyzing her from the waist down. During the shootout Trooper Huff was able to return fire and struck the man once in the shoulder and once in the throat. The man was arrested moments later while walking down the street. Trooper Huff was pronounced dead at the scene.

On February 5th, 1999, the man was found guilty of first degree premeditated murder of a police officer and commission of a felony with a deadly weapon. On August 16th, 1999, he was sentenced to life without parole. The judge presiding over the case refused to sentence the suspect to death by claiming the state had failed to show the crime was committed with aggravating circumstances.

Trooper Huff had served with the Idaho State Police for 14 months. She is survived by her husband, who is also an Idaho State Trooper, and three children.

On May 13th, 2005, Trooper Huff was posthumously awarded the first ever Idaho Law Enforcement and Firefighting Medal of Honor.

While I didn't work for ISP at the time I know Trooper Hugg's story inside and out.  She was the last ISP Trooper to be killed in the line of duty and will never be forgotten.

Dog Days

My dogs are my life!  The month of May was a struggle and I felt very alone.  I really don't know what I would do without these two!  They bring me so much love and add just enough crazy (Thor!) to my life to keep me on my toes.  Because of that I had to share a couple pictures of them from last month that I took on my phone.

Thor wanted me to pay more attention to him than the TV.

After a long day of work love coming home to these happy faces!

Hanging out with my in my reading room.

Molly came in all nice and wet at 2am  I will never care for the smell of wet dog!

My handsome boy hanging outside with me.

Molly loves to sleep under my bed!

Flowers

This summer marks the 3rd summer I will be in my house.  When I first moved in the flower beds and grass needed some major help.  With the help from family I have worked hard to make my front yard look beautiful and I take great pride in it, especially my flower beds.   The last couple of years everything has started to come together and I am loving how it is looking this year!!  I have multiple flowers, grass, and plants that I have planted that come back bigger and better each year.  It has been fun watching everything grow and mature.  This past weekend I finally had a day off to plant more flowers and put down mulch.  It was hard work but so worth it!  Every year I love how everything turns out just a little more than the year before, someday it is going to be amazing!!

Birthday

Another birthday has come and gone.  While I am usually a fan of my birthday this one I struggled with leading up to the week of my birthday.  I had to work and couldn’t get anyone to switch with me making me frustrated.  Then it felt like no one really wanted to do anything and I felt alone.  I miss being married and waking up to someone who helps make the day just a little more special. (For the record I do not miss my ex, I just miss the married life).  Even with my down in the dumps mood and feeling like I was trapped in a grey cloud my birthday ended up being a lot better than I thought it would.    One of my good friends, Ashlie, wanted to go to dinner a few days before my birthday.  We decided to go and get pedicures first and then head over to the Village for some pizza.  It was my first pedicure for the session and my poor feet needed a little pick me up.  I also love having my toes all cute too.  The little spa was busy but neither one of us seemed in a hurry so it was no biggie.  Come to find out dinner ended up being a small surprise birthday party!!  They were all girls from my ward and they made me feel so loved!  It was just what I needed.  It was fun to catch up with everyone and just have a fun girls night.  After dinner I walk around the Village with two of my really good friends.  I couldn’t have asked for a better night.

My birthday started at work since I am on night shift.  At 00:00 my coworker was one of the first to tell me happy birthday as well as my mom and BFF through text messages.

(my birthday card from my mom)

When one of my Troopers checked out of service for the night on the radio she wished me happy birthday as well.  After work and a little sleeping in I meet up with my dad to go visit the graves for Memorial Day.  It is one of my favorite things to do with my dad this time of year and I love talking about memories we have of the people we visit.  This year we made it to two different cemeteries.  The first one we went to is Cloverdale Funeral where my members of my dad’s family are buried.  The second one was Dry Creek Cemetery where we know a lot of different people who are buried there.   Linked to Dry Creek is the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, with all the flags and flowers all the cemeteries were beautiful.  I wish they flew all the large flags all summer long!  After the cemeteries we went to grab a bite to eat at an old burger joint in Eagle.

Later that afternoon my amazing friend Laura stopped by with her kids with treats and to wish me a happy birthday.  They had also decorated my front door the night before letting everyone know it was my birthday.  Earlier in the week she also had some of my favorite chocolates ship to my house, I was so excited when I got the package!!!

I also found a balloon with a card and peanut butter M&Ms from my BFF and more balloons from my good friend Ashlie.

That night I had to go into work.  My team had little gifts for me and a large cake.  The best had to be when my Troopers came in signing happy birthday.  Made my night!!

My sister was out of town on my birthday but yesterday we got together to celebrate.  We had dinner at her house and then for dessert she made a Milky Way Cheesecake that was to die for!!  SOO good!

Overall it was a good birthday with a lot of people who made me feel loved!  I am not sure what my 35th year will bring but I am ready!
